NETWORKING GROUP REVIEW: Ladies Ledger

Best for: Professional women that want to support and empower other women and be part of a sisterhood of likeminded powerhouse females.

Overview: Ladies Ledger has the following motto: “Family First. Business Second. Honor Above Profit. Be Your Sisters Keeper.” The group is less like a traditional networking event and more like a sisterhood. Ladies Ledger started in 2018 as the all-women’s answer to the Gentlemen’s Journal, which has been a South Florida staple for the past five years. The founding chapter of Ladies Ledger meets every third Friday, currently at the delicious Bulla in Coral Gables. One of the reasons I love these monthly meetings is because I get to connect with this powerful group of women, all at different levels in their careers but all there to support each other 100%, not just professionally but also emotionally. Because of that, the friendships that form are genuine and more meaningful, but it also means that they limit the group’s size (which is currently capped) and also that they will not let anyone else into the chapter that is in your same industry (for privacy reasons).

Who attends this event? Membership is limited to women, each working either in a business or as a business owner. Some have even opened their own companies after joining Ladies Ledger. One thing each member has is a passion to empower and support each other and other women in the community.

What is included? After the initial champagne networking hour with appetizers, the ladies take turns sharing with the group for three minutes in response to the monthly prompt of discussion. The monthly topics range from more light hearted fare, like your favorite book that you read this past year, to deeper, more intimate topics about personal challenges you’ve overcome and how they shaped who you are today.

Where is the event located? Bulla in Coral Gables.

When does it take place? Every third Friday, 2-5 PM.

Why should you go? If you are looking for a refreshing take on networking with more meaningful connections, this is the group for you. Membership in the inaugural chapter is closed, but like the Gentlemen’s Journal, Ladies Ledger will probably be looking to grow another chapter soon. So stay tuned and get your name on the waitlist!

How to get in touch with the event: You can contact the board to make sure you get on the waitlist for the next chapter through the Ladies Ledger Facebook.

Insider Experience: Ladies Ledger is one of my favorite groups to be a part of, hands down. So many networking events are dry or lack heart. This group has heart to spare, and I was lucky to have been given one of the membership spots in the first chapter. Ever since the first day I stepped foot into a meeting, I could feel the difference. Each woman comes with different life experiences and is open and willing to share that perspective and wisdom with the group, not for selfish gain but for the genuine desire to rise each other up. I was never a part of a sorority or sisterhood in college or law school (although I was part of a business fraternity—shout-out to all my fellow Delta Sigs!), but I doubt it would have even come close to being a part of this sisterhood of professional women. Along with the monthly networking meeting, the group organizes volunteer opportunities as well as “Power Hours” that focus more on business referrals and development. Ladies Ledger also hosts events with the five Gentlemen’s Journal chapters throughout South Florida, and this has allowed us to collaborate and build a greater network for our members. Although the initial chapter is no longer accepting new members, they are taking names of interested ladies that may wish to join in the future once a new chapter is forming.
